Pisa, Lucca Sunday 25th Jan

we hired a car and had to go inot Florence early today to pick it up.. its a little fiat Punto... then we drove to Pisa, stopping for coffee at Empilo on the way, at a fabulous patisserie..
it was a gorgeous day, a little chilly, but not unbearable, around 7 degrees till the sun came out.
The we went to Lucca, to find some lunch,, no luck on a Sunday afternoon, finally got some fast food, and headed home.
On the way back the traffic was bad, it got dark, but Mark managed to find the place again.
Made some pasta for dinner, opened a bottle of red, and let the heating sink in.
we have the car tomorrow, and there is a big outlet mall about an hour away so we may head over there as there is some heavy rain coming in. The next 4 days are sunny after that.
We will probably take the train to Zurich on Saturday in time to catch our connecting flight on to Singapore, where we have a couple of days, before coming home. That will be a culture shock

Pisa. Sandra, no phots allowed in the Bascilica, and groups only admitted every 30 mns with a prepurchased ticket.

Food: On the food theme, did you happen to find Coco Lezzone yet? It's quite hard to find, look for Via Purgatoria and Via Inferno and the waiters from hell! Seriously! They do tripe on Thursdays and salt cod on Fridays but the roast pork is really nice every day. Simon went to Watford market on Friday and bought some lamb chump chops and a French rabbit. There is something wrong with me as I find it difficult to eat a bunny but not a little lamby! He made some like KFC- recipe is EFR- Essex fried rabbit from Jamie oliver, and it was just like chicken, and the rest into a ragu which had a big slop of Pernod in and got baked into a 3inch high pie with short crust pastry. I ate some for lunch today and spotted bits of the rabbit I would rather not have noticed.
Architecture: Shame about the Baptistry- they sing for you in there you know- miraculous acoustics and captive audience!
Home: Not long now- just click your heels together 3 times and say 'There's no place like home...' Sandra xx

Sandra..
No. Have not got there yet. Found a great little restaurant outside Siena today, run by a Romanian guy and Moldavian woman.. Brilliant pizza, and Pasta.
We have to take the car back to Florence tomorrow, so may try and find it for lunch?
There are ZERO Tourists, seriously none around.

A meat pie would be wonderful right now. Shall go to Katya and Simons when we get back for one Brumbys' one.
Found the local Chianti goes down a treat. I have never been a red wine drinker, but slowly moving through a bottle or so of this each night

Simon, I am sorry, so sorry. I deliberately didnt mention it was the golden Arches.I sit here in shame.
But nothing was open! Sunday afternoon, sista time, NOTHING!!!!!! not even a bloody street vendor, off season, cold weather, but there is no excuse
Does the fact that I had Gamberi(Crumbed prawns) and a Machiatto make it any more acceptable?
Every time we pass a deli the kids say"thats for Simon"
